Description
Our Veterinary Assistants support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in various hospital areas and provide professional, efficient client service. This dynamic role requires flexibility, compassion, and a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate loves animals, communicates well, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare exam rooms and assist during appointments with doctors.
  • Take histories from clients, perform physical assessments, and record observations legibly in medical records.
  • Educate clients on preventative healthcare and provide follow-up.
  • Communicate patient or client concerns to relevant personnel.
  • Perform venipuncture, conduct in-house lab tests, prepare samples for outside labs, and communicate results to owners as requested.
  • Provide and monitor nursing care, including medication administration and patient monitoring.
  • Admit and discharge patients following protocols; educate clients accordingly.
  • Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, and hospital wards.
  • Proficiently use practice software for medication dispensing, documentation, and lab work.
  • Understand and enforce OSHA and hospital safety standards.
  • Perform client callbacks and updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a veterinary hospital or similar setting preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology.
  • Ability to safely handle and restrain animals.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to learn and follow guidance from veterinarians and senior staff.
  • Compassionate with a genuine love for animals.
