Veterinary Assistant – Part Time – Montecito Veterinary Center
PetVet Care Centers' Montecito Veterinary Center is seeking a part‑time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising, grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to all patients
- Greet patients and owners, record weight and vital signs upon arrival
- Triage patients; perform physical exams, treatments, administer medication per LVT orders
- Calm and soothe anxious patients
- Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
- Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment, including EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, etc.
- Formulate prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation and security of controlled drugs
- Feed patients per attending doctor or client requests; record appetites; report unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors
- Communicate positively with clients; ensure they feel comfortable upon departure
- Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medication plans
- Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital: clean equipment, kennels, facilities; use chemicals safely; complete laundry
- Bath and care for overnight patients; ensure animals released are clean and groomed
- Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence each shift is essential
- Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
- Respond promptly to directions from DVM or LVT
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; may include specialty area tasks (dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)
Qualifications (Required)
- Some veterinary or kennel experience (animal experience, shelter, etc. acceptable)
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience in a veterinary clinic
Schedule
- 2–3 days per week; Thursday and Friday required
- Third day optional and flexible
Pay Range
$18.45 – $28.14 USD per hour
