Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality care for pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on pet health, and maintains a safe hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians to ensure optimal pet care and maximize productivity.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to maintain workflow.
  • Provide excellent service, including preparing procedures and monitoring hospitalized pets.
  • Educate clients on wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
  • Obtain and document client histories and maintain medical records.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness in the hospital environment.
  • Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
  • Mentor other paraprofessionals.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Organizational skills with a systematic approach.
  • Problem-solving abilities and client service orientation.
  • Comfort with computer software including medical and office applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
Working Conditions

Must be able to stand, walk, and manipulate objects up to 50 pounds. Comfortable around pets and able to work in a moderately noisy environment. Requires good vision and ambulatory skills.

Minimum Requirements
  • Completion of NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 18 years old for radiography duties.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
