Small Door is a membership-based veterinary care provider focused on humane, high-quality service. We’re seeking a veterinary assistant to join our team in Newton, MA, supporting veterinarians with patient exams, diagnostics, and daily care in a fast-paced, client-centered environment.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of experience, are comfortable with computers, and can lift 50 lbs. Weekend availability and a friendly, proactive attitude are essential for success at Small Door.

Responsibilities

• Recognize medical emergencies and illnesses.
• Assess patients.
• Record vitals and assist doctors with diagnostics.
• Complete treatments as instructed by the doctor.
• Provide basic husbandry and nursing care.
• Monitor patient changes and provide compassionate care.
• Assist in radiography capture.
• Prepare samples for outside labs.
• Run in-house labs and prepare medications.
• Administer medications.
• Work tele-triage shifts (additional stipend).
• Maintain a hospitable environment.

What you’ll do

• Knowledge and ability to recognize medical emergencies and illnesses
• Assessing patients
• Recording vitals and assisting doctors with diagnostics
• Completing treatments as instructed by the doctor
• Basic husbandry and nursing care
• Monitoring changes in patients and providing compassionate care
• Assisting in and facilitating radiography capture
• Preparing samples for outside reference labs
• Running in-house labs
• Preparing medications
• Administering medications
• Working tele-triage shifts (additional stipend)
• Additional responsibilities to maintain a hospitable environment
