Job summary

Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care in Huntington, NY is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for our Internal Medicine Department to join a fast-paced, collaborative team alongside board-certified specialists.

As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant, you will support patient care and client communication, assist with anesthetic procedures and radiographs, obtain medical histories, and help maintain a clean, organized workflow while expanding your skills in specialty medicine.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant (specialty or GP).
• Comfortable in a client-facing role with strong communication skills.
• Confidence in handling and restraining dogs and cats safely.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Interest in internal medicine and specialty care.
• Experience with radiology (X-rays) is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist LVTs and veterinarians with patient care and procedures.
• Prepare and position patients for anesthetic procedures.
• Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats for exams and treatments.
• Use proper restraint techniques for exams and procedures.
• Support diagnostic workflows, including radiographs (X-rays).
• Obtain and document medical histories from clients and referring clinics.
• Call in and manage prescriptions with pharmacies.
• Communicate with clients regarding appointments, medications, and follow-up care.
• Maintain a clean, organized, efficient work environment.
• Collaborate with a supportive, team-oriented hospital staff.
