Job summary

Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care in Huntington, NY is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join the Internal Medicine Department. You will work alongside board-certified specialists in a fast-paced, collaborative setting and grow skills in specialty veterinary medicine.

You will support patient care and client communication, assisting with anesthesia preparation, radiographs, and daily hospital workflow. A strong team environment and ongoing training are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Veterinary Assistant (specialty or GP).
• Strong communication skills for client-facing interactions.
• Ability to safely restrain dogs and cats during exams and procedures.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Interest in internal medicine and specialty care.

Responsibilities

• Assist Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with patient care and procedures.
• Prepare and position patients for anesthetic procedures.
• Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats for exams and treatments.
• Utilize proper restraint techniques for exams and procedures.
• Support diagnostic workflows, including radiographs (X-rays).
• Obtain and document medical histories from clients and referring clinics.
• Call in and manage prescriptions with pharmacies.
• Communicate with clients regarding appointments, medications, and follow-up care.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
• Collaborate with a supportive, team-oriented hospital staff.
