Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health’s Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center of Hawaii in Honolulu is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for its Internal Medicine team. This full-time role involves diagnostics, hospitalized patient care, and collaboration with a Specialty team.

You'll gain hands-on exposure to ultrasound, endoscopy, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, and critical care while supporting complex cases and learning alongside veterinary professionals.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on veterinary assistant experience in emergencies, internal medicine, or specialty practice.
  • Venipuncture, IV placement, sample collection and patient monitoring are required.
  • Excellent animal handling, restraint, and communication skills with a team.
  • Experience with hospitalized patients and IV fluid therapy is preferred.
  • Anesthesia or sedation monitoring experience is a plus.
  • Prior exposure to internal medicine, ER/CCU, or high-volume GP is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Internal Medicine with appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and hospitalized patient care.
  • Perform venipuncture, sample collection, IV catheter placement, and other tasks within scope.
  • Support blood, urine, and diagnostic sample processing.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for ultrasound, radiographs, CT, endoscopy, and other diagnostics.
  • Assist with anesthesia and sedation preparation, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Support endoscopy with pre/post-care.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and manage medications and IV fluids.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and communicate changes to the medical team.
  • Assist with client education, admissions, and discharge planning.

Veterinary Assistant – Internal Medicine

Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center of Hawaii (VERC) | Honolulu, HI
Full-Time | 4/10 hr shifts Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri
Up to $24.00/hr DOE

VERC is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team in Honolulu.

This role is ideal for a Vet Assistant who enjoys diagnostics, complex medical cases, hospitalized patient care, and working closely with a Specialty team. You'll support Internal Medicine patients through advanced diagnostics and procedures while building skills in endoscopy, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, and Specialty veterinary nursing.

What You Bring
  • Previous hands-on Veterinary Assistant, Vet Tech, or veterinary clinical experience.
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
  • Experience caring for hospitalized patients and patients receiving IV fluids.
  • Anesthesia or sedation monitoring experience preferred.
  • Internal Medicine, Specialty, ER/ECC, ICU, Critical Care, or high-volume general practice experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and attention to detail.
  • Interest in advanced diagnostics and Specialty Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary Technician or RVT credentialing is welcome but not required for this Veterinary Assistant position.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will
  • Assist the Internal Medicine team with appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and hospitalized patient care.
  • Perform venipuncture, sample collection, IV catheter placement, and other technical tasks within your training and permitted scope.
  • Support blood, urine, and other diagnostic sample collection and processing.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for ultrasound, radiographs, CT, endoscopy, and other advanced diagnostics.
  • Assist with anesthesia and sedation preparation, monitoring, and patient recovery.
  • Support endoscopy procedures with attendant preparatory
  • Monitor hospitalized patients receiving medications, IV fluids, and ongoing treatments.
  • Maintain accurate patient information and communicate changes to the medical team.
  • Support client education, admissions, discharges, and continuity of care.
