Integrative Medicine & Rehabilitation Department. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our patients by providing a comprehensive approach to animal care that provides the best of conventional medicine and complementary and alternative therapies. Our patients are 60% small animal, 40% equine.
Full-time: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:30AM - 6PM and Friday 8:30AM - 2:00PM
Compensation: $19-21/hr
The Ideal Candidate:- Experience working with pets undergoing veterinary acupuncture, chiropractic, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and/or rehabilitation preferred
- Experience working with small animals (cats & dogs) and equine patients is required
Who we are:Our Integrative Medicine Department provides Veterinary Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Veterinary Physical Rehabilitation including manual therapies, laser therapy, underwater treadmill, PEMF. We provide services for both large and small animals. Our most common consultations are for geriatric care, pain management, post-surgical conditions, allergies, integrative cancer care, and performance animals.
Job Overview:Our integrative assistants are responsible for the management of daily, regularly scheduled appointments, treatments, admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education.
Skills and Qualifications:- Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology
- Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to handle horses and safely assist in equine examinations and treatments.
- Have basic organizational and computer skills.
- Must have the ability to eventually become licensed as a Veterinary Medication Clerk
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES to be completed under the direction of the technician(s) on duty:- Assist the veterinarians as needed with patient care.
- Complete scheduled treatments on patients, run rehabilitation as directed by veterinarian.
- Basic medical dosage calculations
- Maintain accurate medical records for each patient.
- Be able to counsel clients on the medical value of services offered.
- Load room, start SOAP, perform estimates, and perform basic financial updates.
- Perform hospital inventory in the integrative department.
- Perform reception duties as a backup or in the case of receptionist absence.
- Handling monetary transactions with clients.
- Complete other duties as assigned specifically to the department.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:- Must have advanced knowledge in animal anatomy, diseases, behavior and care.
- Must be able to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
- Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directions, keep accurate written records, and know safety protocols.
- Must have advanced knowledge in the administration of medications and recognition of abnormal conditions.
- Must show advanced attention to detail and quality of work.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Must demonstrate an advanced understanding of standard hospital operating procedures.
- Has an advanced ability to communicate with clients.
EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Veterinary Assistant program is preferred (or displays equivalent work experience).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS- Must possess or be able to maintain a Medical Clerk's license.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES- Willing to learn new skills and work as directed with minimal supervision.
- Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs as well as handling of materials of up to 20 lbs, additionally requires handling dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.
- Capable of walking and/or standing for long periods as well as frequently working in a bent position.
- May be required to use strength and/or agility in walking and restraining stronger, more active animals.
- Displays advanced communication skills, especially with regards to client communication and education.
- An advanced ability to problem solve and think critically.
