Job summary

Pima Medical Institute in California is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant Instructor (RVT) to lead and deliver the Veterinary Nursing programs in line with curriculum standards. You will guide students, prepare lectures, and supervise lab activities to ensure competency and success.

The role requires a Registered Veterinary Technician with a current license, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate guest speakers, externships, and evaluations while maintaining student

Qualifications

  • Associate degree from AVMA CVTEA-accredited program recognized by education authorities.
  • Three (3) years of occupational experience in veterinary field.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with valid license.
  • Must hold current license or designation as required by law to work in veterinary field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer tools.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to encourage retention and maintain an 80% success rate.
  • Evaluate student performance and update records and transcripts.
  • Arrange guest speakers, field trips, and externship visits.

Veterinary Assistant Instructor - RVT - Part-Time

Instruct and implement the Veterinary Nursing Programs to educate students in accordance with the curriculum standards and objectives.

Teach and train the next generation of Veterinary Assistants! Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician!

Monday - Friday | 8 am to 12 pm

Tues and Thurs | 6 pm to 10 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans for students to include scheduled activities and materials for sequences and courses.
  • Plan instruction to meet specific objectives aligned with student needs and the established curriculum.
  • Prepare lectures and practical demonstrations for students in class and individually.
  • Monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels on checklists.
  • Monitor students' attendance in the program and coordinate with the Program Director and the Associate Director of Student Services when absences occur on two consecutive days or exceed four days in a single sequence.
  • Meet with students to encourage them to stay in the program.
  • Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program.
  • Evaluate students' performance in curriculum and activities, and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Maintain student grades by established policies. Prepare final grades at the end of each sequence to update student records and transcripts.
  • Arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and hospitals.
  • May assist with externship visits and performance observations for Veterinary Nursing students.
  • Monitor students in the classroom and ensure safety precautions are adhered to.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree from an AVMA CVTEA-accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Three (3) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience within the veterinary field.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).
  • Must hold a current license, certification, or other designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the veterinary field.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer skills.
