Job description

Position Summary:

  • The Veterinary Assistant instructor will teach the skills needed to become a veterinary assistant.
  • Classes consist of both lecture and in-person labs, including supervising and assisting students in Vet Assisting.
  • Ability to develop, select, evaluate, and modify instructional plans and materials, and present them using techniques that meet all students' needs.
  • Supervise classroom and lab activities, evaluate student performance, and have experience teaching in online and face-to-face formats.

Duties:

  • Explain the role and responsibilities of veterinary assistants in various clinical settings.
  • Recognize career pathways in veterinary medicine, assist with cover letter and resume writing, and develop job search strategies.
  • Explain microscopy, identify parasites, and understand laboratory function tests; identify parts of cells and organ functions in small animals.
  • Demonstrate small animal restraint, exam room setup, drug maintenance, and radiograph processing techniques.
  • Identify equipment used in IV catheterization, surgical trays, and procedures.
  • Properly dispense and administer medications and nutritional foods.
  • Perform bathing, grooming, fecal and heartworm exams, urine collection, dental care, and sanitation procedures.
  • Label drugs and radiographs correctly, operate radiograph equipment, and position animals for X-rays.
  • Set up emergency medical equipment, drugs, and supplies, including crash carts.
  • Coordinate clinical internships.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree required.
  • Veterinary Technician with at least 5 years' experience.
  • Must hold a valid Vet Tech certification.
