Veterinary Assistant - ICU

Department: Veterinary Assistants

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Compensation: $16.00 - $24.00 / hour

Description

Neel Veterinary Hospital is now hiring for full-time ICU veterinary assistants to join our team!

We are searching for individuals with veterinary care experience who are excited to learn, work well on a team, enjoy a fast-paced climate, and place patient care as the most important aspect of their role. Our 24 hour hospital offers a variety of caseload, including exotic patients. This role would be for our general practice department.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Safely and effectively handle and restrain patients, ensuring both animal and staff safety
  • Accurately administer medications via IV, subcutaneous, and oral routes
  • Prepare and fill prescriptions in accordance with veterinary directives
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and fellow team members to provide high-quality patient care
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with intravenous drug administration
  • Assist in acquiring and positioning patients for diagnostic radiographic procedures
  • Conduct and process diagnostic testing, including blood, urine, and fecal analyses
  • Support patient admissions and discharges, including client communication and care instructions


Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Preferred have at least 1 year of veterinary medicine experience
  • Must be a bright, friendly, and effective communicator in order to communicate with clients, visitors, veterinarians, and other hospital staff. (It's okay if you talk to animals, too!)
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and move freely for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50 squirming pounds
  • Must be able to work in a veterinary environment with exposure to infection or contagious diseases
