West Hills Animal Hospital & 24hr Emergency Veterinary Center in Huntington, NY is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our busy, 24-hour team. You will support doctors and technicians, care for patients, and help families with their pets.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience.
• Ability to stand, lift and perform duties for at least 8 hours.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced hospital.

Responsibilities

• Care for special needs patients (diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.).
• Restrain canine, feline, and exotic species for doctors and techs.
• Clean cages, surgical area, and equipment; maintain hygiene.
• Administer oral medications and document patient well-being.
• Assist with ER protocol and prep ER table for emergencies.
• Prepare surgical materials with sterilization and handoff.
• Assist LVTs with vital signs, incisions checks, and CNB checks.
• Triaging emergency appointments with the ER doctor on-site.
• Capture radiographs including thorax and abdomen views.
