Calera Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians in delivering high-quality care for pets. Responsibilities include patient monitoring, handling medications, and educating clients.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math skills and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Assist in outpatient exams by taking histories and vital signs.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs.
• Perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and medical equipment.
