Job summary

Animal Medical Center San Rafael is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and loves pets, working in a fun, supportive environment.

The role offers an hourly pay range of $22.00–$28.00, with a $250 sign-on bonus, CE support, annual uniform allowance, license reimbursement, and flexible scheduling (8-hour shifts, Mon–Sat).

Qualifications

• 3+ years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or receptionist.
• Adept with standard industry tools and equipment.
• Passion for working with animals and their owners.
• Experience with handling and restraint of animals.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to obtain accurate medical histories.
• Perform basic exam procedures.
• Proficient in venipuncture (cephalic, saphenous, jugular).
• Capable with digital radiology and positioning.
• Comfortable monitoring anesthesia and assisting surgery (preferred).
• Laboratory tasks including microscopy (ear/fecal cytology); IDEXX in-house lab.
• Excellent client education and communication.
• Adaptable to collaborating with doctors and team members.

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate and thorough medical histories.
• Perform basic exam procedures.
• Accurately perform venipuncture and assist radiology.
• Monitor anesthesia and assist during surgery when needed.
• Conduct in-house lab tasks with IDEXX equipment.
• Communicate care plans effectively to clients.
