Job summary

BluePearl in Olympia, WA is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced Emergency department. The VA pay ranges from $22 to $30 per hour, with growth through our leveling system.

We offer shift differentials for eligible night and weekend hours, plus a comprehensive benefits package. You will triage cases, assist veterinarians, perform diagnostics, and help discharge patients while communicating with clients.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterinary emergency care or urgent care preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly with clients and team members.
• Knowledge of common emergency medications and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to emergency patients following hospital standards.
• Triage cases and assist DVM with care plans and treatments.
• Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labs) and place patients in ICU/inpatient areas.
• Discharge patients and communicate with clients about care plans.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and monitor responses.
• Perform phlebotomy and basic physical exams during rounds.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring for ASA I-II patients.
• Stay current with CPR guidelines and assigned duties.

BluePearl is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced Emergency department in Olympia, WA!

VA Pay: $22 - $30 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 Shift Differential

• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 Shift Differential

• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.00 Shift Differential

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.

• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.

• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.

• Perform phlebotomy.

• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
