Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Arden Hills, MN is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

Position: Veterinary Assistant to rotate throughout all of our departments.

Work Schedule: Full Time

Pay Range VA I/VAII: $19.35 - $28.70/hour

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Competitive Shift Differentials: Earn more with our shift differentials!

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $3.50
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $3.50
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.00

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed. They perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.), set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharge patients, and handle client communication.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exams; accurately assess heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated roles as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

Work Towards:

• Advanced skills such as performing phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, NG tube placement, and more.
• Administering medication via all routes.
• Becoming proficient in hands-free radiology.
• Becoming proficient in laboratory equipment.
• Career leveling, including becoming a certified or non-certified technician.
