Job summary

Heart of Texas Veterinary ER & Specialty Center in Round Rock, TX is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician Assistant for a full-time role, Wednesday–Saturday, 7am–5pm. Starting pay is around $18/hour, negotiable based on experience and credentials.

You will support urgent patient care, assist with restraint, triage, laboratory work, record-keeping, and client communication.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a veterinary technician assistant or kennel tech is required.
  • Able to safely handle and restrain animals.
  • Willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic patient care and husbandry.
  • Safely restrain patients during exams and treatments.
  • Support medical record documentation.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare samples.
  • Maintain clean, stocked hospital environment.
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians to support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties to support patient care and hospital operations.

Veterinary Technician Assistant – Emergency

Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $18/hour. The final pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

About You

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting urgent and critical patient care in a fast-paced emergency and specialty hospital. Your work will include hands-on patient support, safe animal restraint, triage assistance, outpatient treatments, laboratory sample collection, diagnostic support, patient monitoring, and compassionate client service during emergency visits, admissions, and discharges.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with basic patient care and husbandry, including feeding, cleaning, and maintaining patient comfort
  • Safely handling and restraining patients during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Support accurate and timely medical record documentation
  • Performing basic laboratory tests and preparing samples as directed
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and fully stocked hospital environment
  • Ensuring exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment are prepared and ready for patient care
  • Supporting veterinarians and technicians to ensure efficient daily hospital operations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support patient care, team success, and hospital operations

  • Previous veterinary technician assistant or kennel tech experience is required
  • Comfortable handling and restraining animals safely and confidently
