The role emphasizes assisting with procedures, monitoring hospitalized or surgical patients where permitted, and mentoring junior staff as part of a collaborative veterinary team.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting veterinarians or veterinary technicians.
• Ability to educate clients on pet health and preventive care.
• Familiarity with clinic safety, charting, and patient handling protocols.

Responsibilities

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian to ensure best pet care and productivity.
• Communicate with veterinarians, technicians and staff to maintain patient flow.
• Provide professional service and perform tasks that do not require direct veterinary or technician assistance; prepare for procedures and monitor hospitalized or surgical patients as allowed by state acts.
• Educate clients about wellness plans and hospital services.
• Obtain client history and maintain complete medical records.
• Ensure safety by following protocols and keeping treatment areas clean and organized.
• Assist with surgery as applicable.
• Utilize skills within state acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties.
• Mentor paraprofessionals in the hospital.
• Other duties as assigned.
