About the Practice

Animal and Avian Medical Center has been serving Brunswick and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. Our team includes 4 experienced veterinarians and 8 registered technicians dedicated to caring for a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, birds, poultry, pot belly pigs, guinea pigs, and other small mammals. We are a full-service hospital handling routine surgeries, orthopedics, dentals, exotic surgeries, and soft tissue surgeries, often referred by local DVMs.

Role Overview

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians by providing patient care, monitoring hospitalized pets, maintaining inventory, preparing prescriptions, performing lab work, educating clients, and assisting in surgeries.

Responsibilities

• Assist in veterinary procedures and surgeries
• Help with outpatient exams and client education
• Prepare patients and monitor vital signs during surgeries
• Collect samples and perform lab tests
• Take and develop radiographs safely
• Handle and restrain animals
• Administer medications and treatments
• Maintain cleanliness and order in exam and lab areas
• Communicate effectively with clients and team members
• Perform any other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Ability to work weekends as needed
• Previous veterinary experience preferred
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, with assistance for heavier loads
• Practice OSHA safety standards
• Basic math skills for medication calculations
• Proficiency with MS Office and basic computer skills
• Strong communication skills
