Job summary

PetVet Care Centers Arkansas Veterinary Emergency & Specialists in Little Rock seeks Veterinary Assistants to support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including equipment cleaning, patient care, and administration.

Open to full-time, part-time, or PRN shifts; three 12-hour shifts per week including weekends; we offer shift differentials for overnights and weekends, plus comprehensive benefits to support team wellbeing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in Veterinary Medicine.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including equipment cleaning and preparation.
• Restrain and handle patients safely for exams, diagnostics, and treatments.
• Perform venipuncture and assist with laboratory samples as needed.
• Administer medications and monitor anesthesia under supervision.
• Complete medical records and communicate with clients regarding care and discharge instructions.
• Handle client calls and schedule appointments; work both independently and as part of a team.

Position Overview:

Join our team as a Veterinary Assistant who supports the veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Duties include:

• Obtain vitals of patient and a thorough history from client at presentation
• Restrain canines and felines safely and humanely for exam, diagnostics, and treatments
• Venipuncture of Cephalic, Saphenous, and Jugular
• Perform hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, fecal, coagulation panel, and process laboratory samples for reference lab
• Radiology techniques and positioning
• Place and maintain Intravenous Catheters including central lines
• Place and maintain Urinary Catheters
• Calculate medication doses, including oral, injectable, and CRI
• Administer oral, injectable, and CRI medications, including knowledge of drug compatibilities
• Knowledge of CPR procedures
• Perform emergency anesthesia, including calculations, monitoring, and recovery
• Complete medical records in hospital management software
• Fill prescriptions prior to discharge
• Review discharge instructions with client
• Handle client calls and questions, including schedule appointments
• Work independently and as part of a team
• We offer shift differentials for overnights and weekends.
