Surgery Certified Veterinary Technician

PetVet Care Centers' Arkansas Veterinary Emergency & Specialists in Little Rock, Arkansas, is seeking a qualified Surgery Certified Veterinary Technician to support hospital operations by providing high‑quality veterinary care and exceptional client service. The role involves patient care, surgical assistance, diagnostic support, and nursing duties, along with maintaining medical records and supplies.

Position Overview

Responsibilities include determining patient requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies, overseeing triage and discharge, and maintaining patient medical records. The position may require occasional after‑hours, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain vitals and a thorough history from clients at presentation
  • Restrain canines and felines safely and humanely for exam, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Perform venipuncture of cephalic, saphenous, and jugular sites
  • Conduct hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, fecal, coagulation panel, and process laboratory samples for reference lab
  • Apply radiology techniques and positioning
  • Place and maintain intravenous catheters, including central and arterial lines
  • Place and maintain urinary catheters
  • Calculate medication doses, including oral, injectable, and continuous rates
  • Administer oral, injectable, and continuous medications with knowledge of drug compatibilities
  • Demonstrate CPR procedures
  • Perform emergency anesthesia, including calculations, monitoring, and recovery
  • Complete medical records in hospital management software
  • Fill prescriptions and log controlled drugs properly
  • Review discharge instructions with clients
  • Handle client calls and questions, including scheduling appointments
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Clean, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments
  • Assist in surgical procedures
  • Care for all pre/post‑operative surgical patients in the ICU, including hourly medical treatments
  • Maintain cleanliness of the OR, ICU, radiology, and hospital areas
  • Occasionally assist the Emergency Department with incoming ER cases
Qualifications (Required)
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Advanced anesthesia and surgical experience
Schedule
  • Monday–Thursday from 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Must be able to work the full schedule as well as occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay Range

$21.30 – $27.50 USD per hour
