Whether you're taking your first steps into the field or already a seasoned pro at supporting superheroes in scrubs, Essex Middle River Veterinary Center is looking for enthusiastic, compassionate Veterinary Assistants of all experience levels to join our upbeat, high-performing, and yes—slightly pet-hair-covered—team!

We’re currently hiring for both part-time and full-time positions, offering competitive pay ranging from $15–$21/hour, based on experience, with opportunities for overtime. We offer a robust benefits package for both part-time and full-time team members, with offerings that vary based on employment status. What You’ll Do Depends on Your Experience:

  • Practice safe and effective patient handling and restraint
  • Prep lab samples and assist with diagnostics
  • Support technicians and veterinarians in treatments, procedures, and surgery
  • Keep exam rooms, surgical suites, and supplies running like clockwork
  • Provide thoughtful, timely, and friendly client service
  • Help care for boarding pets like they’re your own
  • Use our practice management software to enter SOAP notes, update records, and support continuity of care
  • Educate clients, assist in emergencies, and recover patients with confidence (for experienced assistants)

Full-Time Benefits Package:

  • Scrub Allowance: Eligible on the first day
  • Paid Holidays: Six Paid Holidays (Eligible on the first day)
  • Paid Time Off: Forty hours first year (accrued)
  • Health Insurance: (medical, dental, vision): Single and Family, the first of the month after sixty days of employment
  • Supplemental Insurance:(e.g. life insurance, critical illness, etc.) the first of the month after sixty days of employment
  • 401k: the first of the month following hire date (twenty-one or older), match after one year if minimum hours worked are met/maintained
  • Other Benefits: Continuing Education, Training Opportunities, RVT/LVT/CVT Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Referral Bonus Program, Wellness Resources, Employee Pet Discount

Part-Time Benefits Package:

  • Scrub Allowance: Eligible on the first day
  • Maryland Safe/Sick Leave: one hour for every thirty hours that an employee works up to a maximum of forty hours
  • 401k: the first of the month following hire date (twenty-one or older), match after one year if minimum hours worked are met/maintained
  • Health Insurance: (medical, dental, vision): Single and Family, will be notified of eligibility once and if the employee meets ACA guidelines based on hours worked
  • Other Benefits: Continuing Education, Training Opportunities, Employee Referral Bonus Program, Wellness Resources, Employee Pet Discount

Requirements

Who You Are:

  • Passionate about animals and eager to learn
  • Adaptable multitasker—comfortable going from cuddles to cleaning
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using computers
  • Able to type at least 30 words per minute
  • Willing to grow your skills—from restraint to surgical prep and client education
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Veterinary experience preferred, but not required
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Physically capable of standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout your shift
  • Comfortable handling animals, equipment, and supplies with hands and arms
