Job summary

Alamogordo Animal Hospital is seeking experienced Veterinary Assistants to join our busy 3-doctor practice in Alamogordo, NM. We are open to Part-time and Full-time applicants, with new graduates encouraged to apply.

Starting pay is $15 per hour and up, depending on experience, education, licensure, and certifications. Schedule is full-time with 4-10s and alternating weekends. Location: 519 E Canal St, Alamogordo, NM 88310.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate has veterinary clinical experience.
• Ability to safely handle and restrain pets for exams and treatment.
• Experience taking thorough medical histories and obtaining accurate information.
• Proficiency with blood draws and basic diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed by veterinarians.
• Obtain medical histories and relay findings to the team.
• Support surgery and anesthesia including induction and monitoring.
• Perform basic dental procedures and radiology positioning.
• Cross-train to reception and other hospital areas as needed.

• Salary: Starting at $15 / hour and up, depending on experience, education, licensure, and certifications.
• Schedule: Full-time, 4 -10s schedule. Must be willing to work alternating weekends.
• Location: 519 E Canal St, Alamogordo, NM 88310

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be a dependable, detail-oriented team player. Previous veterinary clinical experience required

• Ability to safely handle and restrain pets for examination and treatment
• Experience obtaining accurate and thorough medical histories
• Comfortable performing basic exams and TPRs
• Skilled in blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular)
• Strong animal handling skills and knowledge of clinical procedures
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Willingness to cross-train to other areas of the hospital including reception duties
• Diagnostic digital radiology including positioning
• Laboratory skills such as ear and fecal cytology; IDEXX, Sedivue
• Experienced in assisting with surgery and anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring, aseptic technique, post-operative care, etc.).
• Ability to perform basic dental procedures such as cleaning, polishing and charting
• Knowledge of common medications and how to dispense per doctor orders
