Staples Mills Animal Hospital in Woodbridge, VA is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for a full-time role with a 5 x 8 schedule, Monday–Friday, no weekends. Compensation ranges from $21–$27 per hour, with benefits and a 401(k) plan.

The successful candidate will assist with exams, therapy setup, radiology, phlebotomy, lab work, and inpatient care while maintaining detailed medical records and exceptional client communication.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as veterinary assistant or related role.
• Proficiency in radiology, phlebotomy, and inpatient care.
• Ability to handle and restrain patients gently.

Responsibilities

• Ensure an efficient exam room workflow and review treatment plans with clients, answering questions with empathy and clarity.
• Provide exceptional patient and client care through gentle patient handling and restraint during exams, procedures, and treatments.
• Assist with surgical setup and patient preparation, supporting the team through procedures and recovery.
• Support the veterinarians and technicians in radiology, phlebotomy, medication administration, and laboratory sample collection.
• Assist with inpatient care, monitoring hospitalized patients and anticipating team needs.
• Maintain accurate, detailed medical records.

In this role, you will:

• Ensure an efficient exam room workflow and review treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients, answering questions with empathy and clarity.
• Provide exceptional patient and client care through gentle patient handling and restraint during exams, procedures, and treatments.
• Assist with surgical setup and patient preparation, supporting the team through procedures and recovery.
• Support the veterinarians and technicians in performing radiology, phlebotomy, medication administration, and laboratory sample collection.
• Assist with inpatient care, monitoring hospitalized patients and anticipating team needs to ensure the highest level of care.
• Maintain accurate, detailed medical records.

Full-time benefits and compensation**:

• Compensation: $21 - 27 per hour, for each hour worked*
• Bonus package: $500 for those with 3+ years of consecutive, current experience

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
