Veterinary Cancer Group of LA is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our exceptional oncology team! Veterinary Cancer Group of Orange County was founded in 1992 and has grown from a one doctor practice into one of the largest and most well-renowned veterinary oncology groups in the world. We are thrilled to be celebrating 30 years in practice this year.
We’re located in Tustin, near pristine beaches, tranquil hiking trails, superb restaurants, quaint boutiques, museums, Sony picture studios and so much more. Veterinary Cancer Group has three other sites throughout Southern California.
Job responsibilities:
- Prepares and maintain cleanliness of entire hospital, exam rooms, treatment area, cages, and runs
- Stocks and restocks entire hospital throughout the day, adding items to inventory request list as needed.
- Assist doctors and technicians in restraint and treatment of patients
- Escorts clients and patients to/from waiting rooms, lobby, and back area
- Take and record appropriate weights
- Obtain the current patient chart and drop off form when necessary
- Set up for procedures such as bone marrow aspirates, catheters, and fine needle aspirations
- Administer oral medications, SC injections, and SC fluids
- Be able to prepare and run in-house lab tests including VCH, PCV, and Vet-Test in house chemistry analyzer
- Clean and sterilize instruments as needed, including maintenance of the cold sterile tray
- Assist in running EKGs
- Place all dogs and cats on towels, with water(as directed), litter pans for cats not needing urine collection, and identified by cage cards
- Learn the hazardous waste disposal procedures, including chemo, sharps, and pharmaceutical waste
- Walk dogs every 4-6 hours, change and sanitize litter pans, water/feed as directed
- Wash, fold, and put away the laundry
- Prepares saline flush in advance for chemotherapy administration
- Take patient histories and start the computer record
- Release patients to owner with direction of techs or doctor
- Assists front desk as needed
- Administer IM injections
- Do routine procedures, such as draw blood and collect urine
- Enter charges and calculations into computer
- Competent taking x-rays
- Prepare and send out outside lab tests including blood, urine, and cultures. Able to start forms for histopathologies and cytologies.
- Able to take an accurate TPR
- Able to handle and restrain fractious or aggressive animals
- Able to take accurate phone messages/relay information from doctors or techs to clients over the phone
- Perform other duties as assigned

Hours: Full/Part time; 10 hours shifts. Must be available to work from 8am to 7pm.
