Job description

Animal Medical Center is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team.

We are a high-volume small animal practice located in Tuscaloosa, AL. Live and work in the home of the Crimson Tide! Tuscaloosa offers scenic hiking, concerts at the Amphitheater, excellent schools, and is just a few hours from Gulf Coast beaches.

Our practice includes four doctors and offers small animal medicine, surgery, dentistry with dental x-ray, behavior consultations, and care for small mammals. We encourage staff to advance clinically through ongoing education and training while working with our exceptional veterinarians. Our team is dedicated to providing excellent, Fear Free patient care.

Qualifications: Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of two years veterinary experience. The ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly attitude, a strong desire to learn, be self-motivated, a team player, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Comfort with multi-tasking, active work all day, and friendly interactions with animals and clients are essential. Excellent client communication and patient-handling skills are required.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Patient restraint to assist Veterinary Technicians, senior assistants, and veterinarians
  • Assisting with patient care and treatment
  • Monitoring hospitalized pets and post-surgery animals
  • Maintaining inventory and stock levels
  • Restraint during blood draws and nail trims
  • Assisting with diagnostic tests such as radiographs, bloodwork, and fecal exams
  • Maintaining and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment
  • Cleaning and disinfecting cages, kennels, and treatment areas
  • Administering medications under supervision
  • Feeding and bathing animals as needed
  • Transporting patients within the clinic or to owners
  • Assisting with client check-out, medication review, and general cleaning
