Job summary

Cape Veterinary Clinic in South Portland, ME is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our AAHA-accredited, full-service small-animal hospital. We offer a Monday–Friday schedule with most weekends off and a maximum of 36 hours per week, plus opportunities for weekend shifts if desired, and a supportive, growth-focused team.

We hire experienced candidates with at least 2 years in a veterinary setting; you will assist with patient care, restraining dogs and cats, injections and venipuncture, CSR

  • At least 2 years of veterinary hospital experience.

Hiring - Full Time Veterinary Assistant
Cape Veterinary Clinic | South Portland, Maine

$20–$25/hour | Up to 36 hours/week | Monday–Friday

Are you an experienced veterinary assistant looking for a schedule that gives you room to breathe while still keeping you engaged in patient care?

Cape Veterinary Clinic is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team in South Portland. We are an AAHA-accredited, full-service small-animal hospital with a strong neighborhood feel and a wide range of medicine for dogs and cats.

What makes this opportunity different?
  • Monday–Friday schedule with a full weekday off
  • Most weekends off
  • Opportunity to work an occasional Saturday or Sunday 8 AM–12 PM shift in exchange for an 8 AM–12 PM weekday shift
  • No more than 36 hours per week (work/life balance - CHECK!)
  • Weekend 8 AM–8 PM urgent care is supported by a dedicated weekend team
  • Opportunity to expand your skills in a well-established, collaborative practice
  • Cross-training in client service/CSR responsibilities to help support the hospital
What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with at least 2 years of veterinary hospital experience who:

  • Has a positive attitude and enjoys being part of a team
  • Is eager to learn, grow, and continue developing veterinary skills
  • Is comfortable handling and restraining dogs and cats
  • Has experience giving injections
  • Proficient with venipuncture
  • Understands veterinary terminology and hospital workflow
  • Can confidently work with both patients and clients
  • Is willing to cross-train as a CSR when needed
  • Cornerstone software experience is a plus

Surgical experience is preferred but not required — we're more interested in your veterinary knowledge, attitude, and willingness to learn.
