Job summary

Garden State Veterinary Services is hiring veterinary assistants to join our Emergency, ICU, Surgery, or Ophthalmology Department in Woodbridge, NJ. The role involves supporting doctors and staff, handling diagnostics, restraining animals, clerical duties, and client communication.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in animal-related field.

Responsibilities

• Help keep the hospital stocked, clean and organized.
• Run diagnostics in our laboratory.
• Assist doctors and staff with restraining animals of different sizes.
• Room clients and obtain a medical history; walk dogs; obtain vitals.
• Place IV catheters and obtain blood samples as learned.
• Run laboratory tests and administer SQ fluids and medications under oversight.

We are a multispecialty practice with boarded specialists in cardiology, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, and critical care. Our clients and patients also have access to ophthalmology, oncology, radiation oncology, neurology, dermatology, and radioactive iodine treatment.

Veterinary Assistants

work along technicians and specialists and have access to the most advanced diagnostic tools to provide the best possible care. On any given day, you can expect to do the following on your shifts:

• Help keep the hospital stocked, clean and organized
• Run many different diagnostics in our laboratory
• Assist doctors and staff with safely restraining animals of different sizes and breeds
• Room clients and obtain a medical history
• Walk dogs
• Obtain vitals

Once trust is built with the team, you can expect to begin learning how to:

• Place IVC and obtain blood samples
• Run laboratory tests
• Provide SQ Fluids and medications to patients with oversight
• Triage patients
• Calculate and administer medications

About you:

• 1 year experience in animal related field
• Ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment
• Ability to work an alternative schedule given the nature of the Emergency department
• Commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community
• Positive outlook and friendly, team-orientated attitude
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• The ability to deliver exceptional client service
• Honesty, integrity, and a desire to learn and have fun!

Salary:

$17/hr to $24/hr depending on skills, experience, and credentials

Schedule:

• Emergency:
  • Sunday - Wednesday 6pm - 8am
  • Sunday - Wednesday 6pm - 4:30am
  • Sunday- Thursday 8am - 5pm
  • Tuesday - Saturday 8am - 5pm
• ICU:
  • Wednesday - Saturday 9:30pm - 8am
  • Sunday - Thursday 8am - 5pm
  • Tuesday - Saturday 9am - 6pm
• Surgery:
  • Friday - Sunday 9am - 6pm
• Ophthalmology:
  • Tuesday - Saturday 8am - 5pm
