SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets, advocating for pets, educating clients on pet health, and maintaining a safe hospital environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team. Act as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best pet care and maximize productivity. Communicate effectively with the team to maintain smooth operations. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service, including performing procedures that do not require veterinarian assistance, preparing for other procedures, ensuring client and pet comfort, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state practice acts. Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, pet health needs, and hospital services. Obtain relevant information and maintain complete medical records. Ensure safety by using proper restraining techniques, following protocols, and keeping treatment areas clean and organized. Assist with surgeries as applicable. Use technical skills within state regulations and NAVTA guidelines. Mentor other paraprofessionals. Perform other duties as assigned.
