Job summary

2nd Street Animal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our patient-care team. You will assist veterinarians and technicians, handle animal restraint, prepare exam rooms, and support daily hospital operations.

Ideal candidates bring at least 1 year of veterinary experience, excellent communication, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset. Weekend and evening availability is preferred to help our clients and pets thrive.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of veterinary medicine experience preferred.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records (weights, samples, client info).
  • Restraint of cats and dogs; exotic pet interest a plus.
  • Able to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Restraint of animals and preparing exam rooms.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain up-to-date patient records and logs.
  • Support hospital operations and client communication.
  • Provide information on fees, preventives, and wellness packages.

In this hands-on role, you'll work alongside our veterinarians and veterinary technicians to support patient care, animal handling and restraint, treatment assistance, and daily hospital operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Restraint of cats and dogs; some exotic pet experience or interest a plus
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records. (Log patient weights, process lab specimens, and update client records)
  • Maintaining cleanliness of hospital (clean, well stocked pharmacy and exam rooms, patient cages, and equipment maintenance)
  • Interacting with clients in a compassionate and professional manner
  • Facilitating the proper flow of appointments
  • Provide information to clients regarding fees, preventives, medication, prescription diets and wellness packages
  • Reinforce veterinarian recommendations
  • Perform other tasks as needed to support the veterinary team.

  • Preferred have at least 1 year of veterinary medicine experience
