Job summary

Main Street Animal Clinic in Oakland, TN is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support exceptional client and patient experiences across hospital care, exams, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures.

You will join a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, assist veterinarians, handle patient restraint, prepare rooms and equipment, and help maintain accurate medical records. This full-time role offers $18–$21/hour with benefits and a supportive culture.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years veterinary assistant or related role preferred.
  • Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of various sizes.
  • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, surgery, radiology, and outpatient procedures.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, SQ injections, lab sample collection, and inpatient care.
  • Obtain patient histories, weights, vital signs, and maintain medical records.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills; teamwork and patient care.

Job description

Main Street Animal Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to continue utilizing and developing a well-rounded skillset across patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures. We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.

In this position, you will take an active role in:
  • Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
  • Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
  • Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
Schedule And Compensation
  • Compensation: $18-21 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position with a 5/8 schedule, Monday-Friday, with rotating availability on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month (9:00 AM-1:00 PM). No on-call or emergency coverage required.

Minimum Qualifications And Skill Set
  • 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, surgery, radiology, and outpatient procedures
    • Experience with phlebotomy, SQ injections, laboratory sample collection, and inpatient care
    • Obtain patient histories, weights, vital signs, and maintain accurate medical records
    • Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills with a commitment to teamwork and exceptional patient care
    • Dependable with a strong work ethic and the physical ability to safely lift, restrain, and care for patients throughout the day
