Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

Position: Veterinary Assistant to rotate throughout all of our departments.

Work Schedule: Full Time

Pay Range VA I/VAII: $20.30 - $30.00/hour

*This pay band depends on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Competitive Shift Differentials: Earn more with our shift differentials!

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases, assist DVMs with crafting and reviewing estimates, perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.), set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharge patients, and handle client communication.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, their side effects, and monitor therapeutic responses.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Perform physical exams and record vital signs accurately.
• Assist with anesthesia and monitoring equipment for ASA I or II classified patients.
• Stay current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in assigned roles.

Work Towards:

• Advanced skills such as phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, NG tube placement, and more.
• Proficiency in hands-free radiology and laboratory equipment.
• Career leveling, including becoming a certified or non-certified technician.
