Job summary

New River Animal Hospital in Nimitz, WV, is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join a Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends and a hands-on patient-care approach.

You will work closely with veterinarians and support staff, assisting with exams, treatments, labs, and hospital operations while gaining valuable experience at an established practice since 1988.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary, kennel, animal care, or healthcare experience is required.
• Comfortable working with both dogs and cats.
• Confident handling animals or willing to learn proper restraint and handling techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary team members during appointments and procedures.
• Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats for examinations and treatments.
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for patients.
• Assist with routine patient care and monitoring.
• Help collect and prepare laboratory samples as directed.
• Assist with diagnostic procedures and treatments.
• Prepare patients and supplies for surgical and dental procedures.
• Maintain accurate patient information and communicate important observations to the veterinary team.
• Help clients feel welcomed and supported throughout their pet's visit.

What You'll Do

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll help our medical team keep each day running smoothly while providing compassionate care to our patients.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary team members during appointments and procedures.
• Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats for examinations and treatments.

• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for patients.

• Assist with routine patient care and monitoring.

• Help collect and prepare laboratory samples as directed.

• Assist with diagnostic procedures and treatments.

• Prepare patients and supplies for surgical and dental procedures.

• Clean, disinfect, and maintain exam rooms, kennels, treatment areas, and equipment.
• Feed, walk, monitor, and provide comfort to hospitalized or recovering patients.

• Stock medical and hospital supplies.

• Maintain accurate patient information and communicate important observations to the veterinary team.
• Help clients feel welcomed and supported throughout their pet's visit.
• Jump in where needed to support the team and keep the hospital running efficiently.

What We're Looking For

• Previous veterinary, kennel, animal care, or healthcare experience is required.
• Comfortable working with both dogs and cats.
• Confident handling animals or willing to learn proper restraint and handling techniques.
• Compassionate and patient with pets.
• Dependable and able to work well as part of a team.
