Job summary

Family Pet Clinic of Newberg is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support experiences for our clients and patients across hospital care. The practice treats dogs, cats, pocket pets, and reptiles, with a focus on Fear Free handling and a calm patient experience.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in safe animal handling and stress-free restraint for dogs, cats, pocket pets, and reptiles
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
  • Surgical setup and assisting
  • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, blood draws and outpatient procedures
  • Radiographs and positioning
  • Experience collecting patient histories, weights and vital signs

Job description

Family Pet Clinic of Newbergis seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile veterinary assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to continue utilizing and developing a well-rounded skillset across patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, outpatient procedures, acupuncture, and orthopedic care. The practice sees a diverse range of patients, including dogs, cats, pocket pets, and reptiles, providing an exciting opportunity to expand your experience across multiple species.

The team places a strong emphasis on stress-free handling to create a calm, comfortable experience for every patient. We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $ 19 - $21 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position, with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Monday-Friday with a rotating Saturday. Saturday shifts are generally scheduled every other Saturday, with the possibility of working two consecutive Saturdays based on scheduling needs.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 3+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Safe animal handling and stress-free restraint skills for dogs, cats, pocket pets, and reptiles of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
    • Surgical setup and assisting
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, blood draws and outpatient procedures
    • Radiographs and positioning
    • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
    • Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
