Job summary

Berclair Animal Hospital in Memphis is seeking a Veterinarian Assistant to support veterinarians, technicians, patients, and clients throughout the day. You will join a collaborative team that values compassionate patient care, clear communication, and helping one another succeed.

Training and development opportunities are provided. The role includes restraining patients, triaging, lab work, imaging, nursing care, medication administration, and assisting with surgeries and anesthesia monitoring.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience.
• Weekend and holiday availability.
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
• Experience with sample collection, medical histories, laboratory testing, and radiographs.
• Interest in continuing to develop veterinary skills and knowledge.
• Self-starter mindset and willingness to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Anesthesia monitoring experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Safely restraining patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Triaging incoming veterinary patients and helping the team prioritize care.
• Collecting and processing laboratory samples.
• Assisting with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.
• Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying levels of stability.
• Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team.
• Obtaining medical histories and communicating treatment plans and instructions to clients.
• Preparing patients for surgery and assisting with veterinary surgical procedures.
• Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
• Helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming veterinary environment.

We’re a full-service veterinary hospital providing compassionate care for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and pocket pets. Our veterinary team provides everything from wellness and preventive care to dentistry, surgery, emergency care, and advanced diagnostics.

As a Veterinarian Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians, veterinary technicians, patients, and clients throughout the day. In this veterinary role, your responsibilities may include:

Our hospital uses modern veterinary technology and diagnostic tools, including ultrasound, digital X-ray, in-house laboratory capabilities, and other diagnostic equipment. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinarians and veterinary technicians while gaining exposure to a wide range of cases and services.

Qualifications
