Job summary

Central Hospital for Animals in Marion, IL is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for full-time or part-time roles. You will restrain and triage patients, collect lab samples, perform imaging, and assist with nursing care and medications. Opportunities for growth and ongoing training are available.

Qualifications

• Experience as Veterinary Assistant, 1 year preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player, multi-tasker, and strong communicator.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, processing laboratory tests, radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring preferred.
• Self-starter with desire to continue to advance knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Restrain and manage incoming patients and triage as needed.
• Collect and analyze lab samples and coordinate with lab results.
• Perform diagnostic imaging and assist veterinarians on procedures.
• Provide nursing care to medical and hospitalized patients.
• Administer medications and monitor treatment plans with clients.
• Prepare for surgery and assist with anesthesia management.

Here at Central Hospital for Animals, we are a team of client-focused doctors bringing over two hundred years of quality experience to the table. We are an AAHA-accredited practice that has provided high-quality service to southern Illinois for over forty-five years. Central Hospital for Animal specializes in dentistry, preventative care, reproductive medicine, and exotic pets. We host a full-service grooming salon where we provide anything from nail clipping to custom brush-outs and styling.

Our facility is stocked with the latest innovations in animal health so we can deliver full laboratory and pharmacy service in-house. Our parent hospital is the leading referral site for orthopedic and joint repair, along with more involved surgeries; this enables us to get our clients the help they need efficiently. Central Hospital for Animals performs everything with the goal of giving the pets of Marion happy, healthy lives!

Our hours of operation are:

• Monday- Friday, 8am-5pm
• Must be availableto work some Saturdays 8am-12pm

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.
