SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on pet health, and maintains a safe hospital environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure quality pet care and maximize productivity.
- Communicate effectively with all team members to maintain smooth patient flow.
- Provide professional, efficient service, including performing procedures within scope, preparing for procedures, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by law.
- Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
- Obtain and document relevant client information and medical history.
- Ensure safety of pets, clients, and staff by following safety protocols and maintaining clean, sterile areas.
- Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
- Utilize technical skills in accordance with state laws and NAVTA guidelines.
- Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
