Job summary

Southside Animal Hospital on Johns Island, SC is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our six-doctor team. We value compassionate care, client education, and teamwork as we deliver high-quality medicine in a busy, supportive environment.

You will assist doctors with surgical prep and anesthesia monitoring, perform dental and vaccination tasks, triage patients, and help with appointments. We offer growth opportunities, comprehensive benefits, and a rotating Saturday schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Calm and efficient under pressure in fast-paced environment.
• Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills including lab, pharmacy, nursing, and radiology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist doctors and technicians with surgical preparation and anesthetic monitoring.
• Provide dental assistance.
• Triage patients and assist with appointments.
• Administer and understand vaccination protocols.
• Educate clients on vaccines, prevention, and wellness care.
• Venipuncture (preferred but not required).

Full-Time Veterinary Assistant

Southside Animal Hospital is seeking a Full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our friendly, team-oriented practice! We are a busy, 6-doctor hospital dedicated to providing high-quality care and compassionate service to our patients and clients.

Hospital Hours

• Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM


• Saturday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM


• Sunday: Closed

Schedule

• 4 days 8a-6p


• Rotating Saturday schedule 8am - 1 pm


• Surgery performed 4 days per week


• Cross-training opportunities throughout the hospital

Position Responsibilities

• Assist doctors and technicians with surgical preparation and anesthetic monitoring


• Dental experience


• Triage patients and assist with appointments


• Administer and understand vaccination protocols


• Distinguish between core and lifestyle vaccines


• Educate clients on preventatives and wellness care


• Venipuncture (preferred but not required)


• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment

Compensation

• $17–$22 per hour, based on experience
