Job summary

Hometown Veterinary Partners is hiring Veterinary Assistants (VA) to support our bright, new hospitals in your community. You’ll join a hospital team reporting to the Hospital Director or Partner Doctor, focusing on exceptional client care and patient support.

Roles include patient handling, medication administration, and record-keeping, with emphasis on culture, collaboration, and community. Opportunities are available as full-time or part-time positions, with competitive compensation,

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of veterinary experience.
  • Spanish language ability is a plus to support our diverse client community.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and their pets in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Assist in check-in/check-out and scheduling of follow-up care.
  • Restrain and handle pets during examinations and procedures as directed by DVM.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the DVM.
  • Observe animals, report health changes, and assist in emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and logs in the patient chart.
  • Educate owners on medications, nutrition, and preventive care as directed by the DVM.

Our care teams have important roles in which they collaborate on successful outcomes and advancements in operations, pet care, and client services. We provide services six days/week which include: appointments, scheduled surgeries, and preventative care days.

  • Welcome clients and their pets to the hospital in a friendly and courteous fashion.
  • Assist clients in checking in and out as well as setting up appointments for follow-up care.
  • Gathering basic vital signs, weight, and history on patients.
  • Properly restraining pets during examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the DVM.
  • Observe animal behavior and health conditions and report to the DVM.
  • Assist in cases of emergencies.
  • Keep accurate records and logs and record them in patients’ medical notes.
  • Advise pet owners on nutrition and healthcare as determined by the DVM.
  • Educate owners on medications, husbandry, and recommend practices for their pets as determined by the DVM.
  • Perform clinical diagnostics.
  • Support in medical procedures such as collecting specimens, performing laboratory procedures and assisting in diagnostic medical, and surgical procedures in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Collaboration
  • Give input, ideas, and suggestions for continual improvement of the practice environment for the care team, patients, and pet parents.
  • Be a part of quality, safety, and health initiatives.
  • Triage emergency cases appropriately and keep clients and pets at ease.
  • Review patients’ records to ensure that immunizations, diagnostic and routine testing, and prevention are up to date.
  • Note all observations, testing, and treatments in Medical Notes.
  • Clean kennels, examination tables/rooms treatment areas, sterilizing equipment and wrapping of packs.

  • Ability to exercise patience and empathize with clients.
  • Ability to closely follow instructions when preparing and administering treatment to patients.
Experience, Education And/or Training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of veterinary experience required.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus and will support our diverse client community
