Job summary

The Veterinary Eye Center of Massachusetts in Newton is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This role focuses on client communication and patient care in a state-of-the-art ophthalmology practice, with a supportive culture and strong emphasis on employee wellness.

The position offers a four-day workweek (Mon-Thu, 7:30am–5:30pm), comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for growth in a unique specialty environment while avoiding weekend or on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of hands-on veterinary assistant or animal handling experience.
• Confidence in Fear Free handling and restraint techniques with dogs and cats.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication with clients and colleagues.
• Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, responsibly, and ethically.

Responsibilities

• Assist Doctors and Technicians to provide a seamless client and patient appointment experience.
• Handling and restraint of patients for consultation exams and sample collection.
• Handling and submission of patient samples to in-house and external laboratories.
• Thorough cleaning, organization, and stocking of appointment exam rooms and treatment areas.

About the role:

The Veterinary Eye Center of Massachusetts is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Newton. The practice is the first standalone referral ophthalmology practice of its kind in the area.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist Doctors and Technicians in providing a seamless client and patient appointment experience
• Handling and restraint of patients for consultation exams and patient sample collection
• Handling and submission of patient samples to in-house and external laboratory
• Thorough cleaning, organization, and stocking of appointment exam rooms and appointment treatment area

What We Require:

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience as a veterinary assistant or professional experience in an animal handling environment such as groomers; day cares; etc
• Confidence in Fear Free handling and restraint techniques with dogs and cats
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and an ability to clearly communicate with clients as well as colleagues
• The ability to adapt while maintaining a positive attitude
• Highly evolved organizational skills with an acute attention to detail
• The ability to work independently, responsibly, and ethically
• A resourceful nature and creative problem-solving skills
• An openness to feedback, coaching, and continuous learning
