Provide your best care with fewer barriers
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your work will include hands-on care, facilitating outpatient treatments, performing laboratory tests, and supporting services such as admitting and discharging patients.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients during outpatient appointments.
- Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
- Obtain pertinent health history and information from clients and maintain medical records.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive medical records with practice systems support.
- Perform basic nursing skills such as taking vital signs, nail trims, anal gland expression, venipuncture, and administering injections.
- Use safe restraining techniques, follow protocols, and keep treatment areas clean and organized.
- Prepare patients, medications, and equipment for examinations.
- Prepare lab samples for diagnostic screening.
- Communicate with clients about pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and treatments.
- Mentor and support fellow team members.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Possess or obtain Washington State Veterinary Medication Clerk certification within 90 days.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to enter medical notes and maintain records; minimum typing speed of 45 wpm.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs unassisted.
- Desire to practice empathetic, high-standard medicine for all life stages.
- Positive, trustworthy communication with patients, team members, and clients.
- Desire for growth and advancement as a team member.
Ideal candidates will have at least two years of veterinary assistant experience. Our hours are Mon-Fri 7am-6pm, Sat 8am-4pm, with a rotating schedule.
Compensation ranges from $20 to $23 per hour, based on credentials and experience. The actual rate will consider your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
