The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality care for pets. They advocate for pets, educate clients on pet health, and maintain a safe hospital environment.

Functional skills include ensuring medical quality, effective communication, and results-driven work. Capabilities required are multitasking, communication, organization, problem-solving, client service, intellectual and mathematical abilities, and computer proficiency.

Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings. Must be comfortable around pets and able to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating equipment. The environment may be noisy and expose staff to pets, biological hazards, and other risks.
Completion of a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent education and experience. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least 18 years old for radiography duties. One year of related experience preferred.
