Job Description: Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality care for pets, advocating for pets, educating clients on pet health, and maintaining a safe hospital environment.

Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team. Act as the additional eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure optimal pet care and maximize team productivity.

Communicate effectively with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and all associates to ensure smooth patient flow.

Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times. Responsibilities include performing procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance, preparing for other procedures, ensuring client and pet comfort, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state laws.

Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, and other relevant topics.

Obtain relevant information and medical history from clients and maintain accurate medical records.

Ensure safety for pets, clients, and staff by using safe restraint techniques, following protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.

Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.

Utilize technical skills to the fullest extent within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties.

Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.

Perform other duties as assigned.
