Job summary

Parker Animal Care in Austin, TX is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians, technicians and support staff in delivering individualized care during animals' stay with us.

You will assist with examinations, vaccinations, and lab tasks, maintain accurate medical records, and help with front-desk duties while upholding high standards of service and animal welfare. Shifts cover Monday to Saturday with a rotating schedule and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Professional, cheerful and helpful attitude when interacting with pet owners and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting.
  • Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
  • Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries
  • Gain knowledge of common diseases, their symptoms, and means of transmission
  • Gain knowledge of preventative health care recommendations to answer questions and assist in marketing veterinary services from which clients’ pets would benefit
  • Safely restrain patients during examinations, injections, and treatments while understanding & learning the individual needs of the pet.
  • Learn basic front-desk procedures in order to assist receptionists such as phone system, veterinary practice-management software and appointment scheduling guidelines
  • Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces
  • Help to run laboratory testing collected by the veterinarian and technician
  • Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment

Parker Animal Care is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and devoted support staff to ensure each animal receives the best possible individualized care during their stay with us. Salary: $16-$18/hr.

Schedule: Hospital is open Monday - Saturday. Typically 4 - 10hr shifts per week, depending on needs of hospital, alternating Saturdays required. 2 week rotating set schedule. Shifts between 8am-6pm or 7am-5pm depending on the day.
