Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health's Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral in Wilmington, NC is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Internist to join our growing team at a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital. You will work alongside specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, radiology and oncology.

You will mentor residents and students while delivering compassionate, high-level patient care using state-of-the-art diagnostics and technologies.

Qualifications

• Board certification in veterinary internal medicine or residency in the specialty.
• DVM or equivalent degree with eligibility for North Carolina licensure.
• Strong clinical skills and ability to work in a collaborative, high-volume referral hospital.
• Commitment to teaching, mentorship, and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced anesthesia and perioperative care for complex cases.
• Collaborate with surgeons, internists, cardiology, critical care, radiology, and oncology.
• Engage in teaching residents, interns, and veterinary students.

In Your Day-to-day, You Will

• Provide advanced anesthesia care for complex specialty, emergency, surgical, and interventional cases.
• Collaborate closely with specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, radiology, medical oncology, neurology, and emergency medicine.
• Support complex procedures utilizing ARISE’s advanced diagnostic and interventional capabilities, including CT, MRI, endoscopy, ultrasound, and C-arm fluoroscopy.
• Contribute to the hospital’s teaching environment by working alongside residents, interns, and veterinary student externs.
• Partner closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
• Help foster a culture of mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and continuous learning.
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.

What You Bring

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Anesthesiology or residency training in Veterinary Anesthesiology.
• Strong clinical skills and an interest in complex anesthesia and perioperative case management.
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
