Job summary

Lilly is seeking a talented anatomic veterinary pathologist to contribute to drug discovery and development at the Lilly Corporate Center in Indianapolis, IN. The ideal candidate holds a DVM/ACVP and a PhD with at least two years of GLP/non-GLP pathology experience, and must be able to travel as needed.

Eli Lilly & Company is seeking a talented and energetic anatomic veterinary pathologist to work in drug discovery and development at the Lilly Corporate Center in Indianapolis, IN. The individual selected for this position will join a talented group of anatomic and clinical pathologists reporting to the Senior Director of Pathology in the Division of Toxicology and Pathology. The individual selected should be able to work collaboratively in cross-functional drug discovery and development teams within Lilly and with Lilly’s external partners to provide scientific leadership in interpreting toxicity and pharmacologic effects caused by drugs. They will be expected to design, conduct, interpret, and peer review the pathology-related aspects of nonclinical studies. The successful candidate will represent pathology-related outcomes to global health authorities to support clinical trials and marketing authorizations. A key expectation will be to identify and resolve pathology and toxicology issues affecting the discovery and development of pharmaceuticals. The role involves frequent interactions with external business partners, particularly as a pathology peer reviewer. We are seeking an individual with strong communication and engagement skills to partner with a world-class organization of scientists and leverage translational and comparative medicine expertise to positively impact projects in Lilly’s portfolio.

Basic Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree and certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) (Anatomic Pathology)
  • Ph.D. in a related field of science
  • 2 years of experience in evaluating, interpreting, and reporting GLP and non-GLP pathology data from nonclinical toxicity studies
  • Onsite Indianapolis required


Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in pathology peer review of data from GLP nonclinical toxicity studies
  • Experience in the interpretation and/or reporting of clinical pathology data from nonclinical toxicity studies
  • Experience in the evaluation and reporting of pathology data from animal models of human disease or other types of drug discovery studies
  • Experience using digital pathology to evaluate and analyze pathology endpoints
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication, particularly of pathology data
  • Development of scientific and regulatory perspectives on emerging issues and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work individually or effectively in cross-functional teams on issues related to drug discovery and development
  • Experience working with multiple therapeutic modalities
  • Ability to travel to Lilly business partners and regulatory agencies to conduct Lilly Toxicology and Pathology business

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$169,500 - $312,400

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
