Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking a Large Animal Surgeon and/or Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation faculty member to join our new veterinary teaching program and large animal ambulatory service based out of our Glassboro, NJ campus. The selected candidate will be integral in the development and growth of the newly established field service for the veterinary teaching school.
The selected candidate will provide comprehensive routine care to equine patients in the field setting – including but not limited to, consultations, routine field procedures, and the sports medicine aspect of clinical medicine including treatments. This position allows for collaborative case and research work with our farrier currently on staff. While this position is predominantly equine based, candidates will participate in after-hours emergency coverage for the service, which also includes backyard and production livestock patients. These species include primarily small ruminant, camelid, equine, bovine and porcine. Responsibility for providing after-hours emergency coverage will be shared across members of the service. The selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively oversee support staff. The SSVM large animal field service covers Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties in Southern New Jersey.
The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for teaching and evaluation of veterinary students, veterinary technology students, interns, and residents in the clinical field setting. Teaching of surgical principles within the pre-clinical years and coordination of hands-on surgical training experiences during the 3rd year are essential components of the role. Additional teaching responsibilities are didactic in nature and will include topics associated with large animal surgery and equine sports medicine. Our top priorities are delivering excellent patient care and training graduates who are competent, confident, and ready from day one.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in equine surgery and sports medicine through completion of an equine and/or large animal surgical residency program and be board-eligible or board-certified in ACVS-LA.
These positions are open-rank and candidates are eligible for appointment at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor roles, either in a clinical or tenure track, based upon qualifications and professional goals. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
