Job summary

  • Assist in euthanasia decisions and uphold herd health protocols and sanitation practices.
  • Provide compassionate medicine within a cohesive veterinary team for a range of cases from preventive care to emergencies.

Job Location: Wilton, CT 06897Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $165,000.00

Do you like doing different things every day? Do you like mixing client interaction with helping shelter pets? If so our brand-new facility in Wilton is looking for a full-time Veterinarian.

This position is critical to our mission and our strategic direction as an organization. We are looking for a veterinarian who wants to make a difference for the pets and people of our community by providing quality care to owned and shelter pets by helping to advance the organization's mission and being a team player with an incredible staff! The veterinarian must be able to perform well in an environment that can be hectic and challenging but ultimately is very rewarding.

When working in the shelter, in concert with the management team, this position will work to manage medical care and health management programs for the shelter animals, including those temporarily in foster care, focusing on identification, treatment and prevention of health problems. Will perform surgical procedures on shelter animals, as needed, (spay/neuter, hernia repair, growth removals, dental extractions). Aids in the decisions of euthanasia for an animal, including performing euthanasia. This position will also help to ensure that staff are following herd health protocols and proper sanitation practices.

When working in the clinic, this position will be responsible for practicing compassionate medicine and surgery as a vital member of a cohesive team of veterinarians and paraprofessionals managing the gamut of cases from routine preventive medicine to challenging outpatient medicine cases. This ideal professional will also be responsible for performing soft tissue surgeries including but not limited to tumor removal, cystotomy, cherry eye repair, amputations, routine dentistry, and spay/neuter.

  • QualificationsEducation: DVM. Current license to practice in the US, will help obtain state licensure if needed.
  • Experience: 2-5 years working in a clinic or shelter setting or experienced clinician. Previous clinical experience, particularly in shelters, is preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to perform soft tissue and spay/neuter surgery. Diagnose and prescribe treatments for diseases and medical conditions, ability to perform physically strenuous activities which will require lifting of moderate to heavy weights (up to 40 lbs.), standing and/or bending, walking and/or controlling dogs and/or cats, use of cleaning solutions, and sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
  • Technology: Proficiency in computers and on-line medical records
