Job summary

NorthernBio in Muskegon, MI is seeking a full-time on-site Veterinarian to provide clinical care for research animals, perform comprehensive exams, diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, and monitor health and welfare. You will oversee surgical procedures, perioperative care, and ensure compliance with veterinary and laboratory animal regulations.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent and Michigan licensure eligibility.
  • Experience in laboratory animal medicine or research settings, including GLP and IACUC familiarity.
  • Proficiency in clinical exams, diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgical procedures for lab and companion animals.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and biosafety in research.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with high ethical standards.
  • Experience in translational research, toxicology or pharmacology is beneficial.
  • Board certification or residency in laboratory animal medicine is a plus.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Veterinarian role based in Muskegon, MI. The Veterinarian will provide clinical care for research and colony animals, including performing physical examinations, diagnosing conditions, prescribing treatments, and monitoring animal health and welfare. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing surgical procedures, providing perioperative care, and ensuring adherence to veterinary and laboratory animal regulations and guidelines. The role involves collaborating with scientists and technical staff to design and refine study protocols, advise on animal models, and support the ethical conduct of research. The Veterinarian will also help develop and implement standard operating procedures, participate in training programs for staff, and contribute to continuous improvement in animal care and biosafety practices.

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and eligibility for licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Experience in laboratory animal medicine, research settings, or comparative medicine, including familiarity with GLP and IACUC standards.
  • Proficiency in clinical examination, diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgical procedures for common laboratory and companion species.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare regulations, biosecurity, and best practices for humane care and use of animals in research.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary scientific and technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and maintain high standards of accuracy and ethical conduct.
  • Experience in translational research, toxicology, pharmacology, or related fields is beneficial.
  • Board certification or residency training in laboratory animal medicine or a related specialty is a plus.
