Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Clinical Scientist to oversee lab animal care at the LVL site with cross-coverage at the NBR site. You will provide clinical veterinary services, GLP oversight, and contribute to protocol design and training programs for compliance.

Required DVM or equivalent with US licensure and ACLAM eligibility; experience with lab animals and familiarity with FDA/USDA/IACUC/AAALAC guidelines. Strong collaboration and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree and a current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals and knowledge of their biology, diseases, and handling.
  • ACLAM board-eligibility through post-doctoral work or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with FDA, USDA, IACUC, AAALAC regulatory guidance.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices for lab settings.
  • Interest or experience with surgical models and anesthesia in a research setting.
  • Experience with large animal species including NHP and swine preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and uphold core values.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical care and accurate record keeping for all laboratory animals, including assessment and treatment planning.
  • Serve as a clinical veterinarian at the LVL site with cross-coverage at the NBR site, overseeing GLP studies and regulatory compliance.
  • Direct and evaluate animal health surveillance programs and interpret microbiological data to prevent and treat disease.
  • Collaborate with scientific staff on experimental protocol design and translational research models.
  • Partner with training teams to implement programs for VS staff and researchers to ensure compliance.
  • Support IACUC through pre-review, PAM, and assessment of personnel competencies.
  • Contribute to internal projects and cross-site committees; mentor and supervise staff.
  • Provide veterinary care across species, including rodents, canines, rabbits, swine, and NHP.

Job description

  • Provide high-quality clinical care and accurate record keeping for all laboratory animals, including clinical assessment and diagnoses, treatment planning, management of disease outbreaks, and performance of surgery and anesthesia
  • Serve as a clinical veterinarian at the LVL site, with cross-coverage responsibilities at the NBR site as needed, including veterinary oversight for GLP studies and ensuring compliance with applicable GLP regulations and standards
  • Direct and evaluate animal health surveillance programs; interpret and apply microbiological, serological, and parasitological data to prevent, diagnose, and treat laboratory animal disease
  • Collaborate with scientific staff on experimental protocol design and animal model development, building expertise in translational research models
  • Partner with the VS Global Training Team to implement and deliver training programs for VS staff and research personnel, supporting compliance with all applicable regulations and standards
  • Support the IACUC through rotational veterinary pre-review of all activities involving animals, post-approval monitoring (PAM), and assessment of research personnel technical competencies
  • Contribute to internal projects and cross-site committees, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility over time
  • Supervise VS staff as assigned, with mentorship provided
  • Provide veterinary care and oversight for a diverse range of species, including, but not limited to, rodents, canines, rabbits, swine, and nonhuman primates (NHP)
Requirements
  • DVM, or equivalent degree, plus a current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States
  • Experience working with laboratory animals, with demonstrated knowledge of their biology, diseases, and handling
  • ACLAM board-eligibility through completion of an ACLAM-approved post-doctoral program or accrual of equivalent experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines governing the care and use of laboratory animals (FDA, USDA, IACUC, AAALAC)
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices, including PPE use to minimize injury risk and exposure to zoonotic agents
  • Interest in or experience with surgical models and anesthesia in a laboratory animal research setting (preferred)
  • Experience working with large animal species, including nonhuman primates and swine (preferred)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
